Dai Zhe Shi means some kind of red stone.
As a stone, it is heavy in weight and can suppress hyperactivity of the liver yang, used to treat headache and dizziness caused by liver yang rising.
A special point for this herb is that it can also treat vomiting, eructation, etc, by lowering rising of the stomach qi, since it is a heavy stone.
Because it is red, it is also related to blood, so it is used in the clinic to treat epistaxis, hematochezia, etc.
Gou Teng
This is the most interesting herb in this group. Gou means hooked, Teng means vine. If you extend the meaning of hook and vine to mean the tissues and phenomena of the human body, you will say hooks are the signs of convulsion, while vine must be something related to the tendons.
So this herb is specially used for convulsion in epilepsy, or febrile disease.
It can also treat dizziness or headache due to hyperactivity of the liver yang.
